July 2014: A Fond Farewell to Helen Kinder

Helen KinderIt is with great sadness that the band announces the resignation of Helen Kinder as Musical Director. Helen will be flying out of the country in August to commence her new teaching post in India!

Helen joined the band in 2011 and has led us to victory with 1st places at the GBBA and WBBA Contests (first section) in 2012 and several other podium place performances.

March 2013: West of England Regional Finals

The Band competed in the West of England Regional Finals on the 9th March 2013, and for the second time under the baton of our Musical Director Helen Kinder. ‘Brass Triumphant ‘ by Gareth Woods is a descriptive, lyrical work, with much for the listener and performer alike to enjoy, evoking great imagery as it flows through the four movements. Preparations had gone well on a piece not necessarily technically challenging, but musically testing nonetheless.

March 2012: Not a Great View from our Mountain!

Another year, and another Regional Championships in the 'English Riviera'. The band was again competing in the First Section West of England Regional Championships on the 11th March 2012. The music chosen was ‘Mountain Views’ by Bertrand Moren, which on paper looked to be one of the easier test pieces technically that we have had to play in recent years. However, this nearly always means that the contest results throw up a few surprises!

January 2012: Hyde Band Christmas Meal and Awards

After a very successful Autumn contesting season and Christmas carolling period, it was time for the Hyde Band annual Christmas meal - given how busy the band was in December, this event was held in January 2012. The band Directors decided the Christmas meal would not only be a good chance to relax and socialise, but it would also be an excellent opportunity to reflect on 2011 and recognise various individuals for their outstanding performances and going 'above and beyond' to help the band. The Hyde Band Annual Awards evening was born. Congratulations to those listed below - very worthy winners:

December 2011: News Update

Carolling in AsdaThe Christmas period has kept the band busy with many carolling sessions in Bournemouth, Poole, Fordingbridge and Breamore- all of which helped to 'top-up the coffers' which will help  sustain the band throughtout 2012.

The band also performed at our annual Carol Concerts in Harbridge Church on the 21st Decembet and Sandy Balls Holiday Centre on Christmas Eve - the highlight as always being our rendition of "The 12 Days of Christmas", which always goes down a storm with the audience.
