Another year, and another Regional Championships in the 'English Riviera'. The band was again competing in the First Section West of England Regional Championships on the 11th March 2012. The music chosen was ‘Mountain Views’ by Bertrand Moren, which on paper looked to be one of the easier test pieces technically that we have had to play in recent years. However, this nearly always means that the contest results throw up a few surprises!
After a very successful Autumn contesting season and Christmas carolling period, it was time for the Hyde Band annual Christmas meal - given how busy the band was in December, this event was held in January 2012. The band Directors decided the Christmas meal would not only be a good chance to relax and socialise, but it would also be an excellent opportunity to reflect on 2011 and recognise various individuals for their outstanding performances and going 'above and beyond' to help the band. The Hyde Band Annual Awards evening was born. Congratulations to those listed below - very worthy winners:
The Christmas period has kept the band busy with many carolling sessions in Bournemouth, Poole, Fordingbridge and Breamore- all of which helped to 'top-up the coffers' which will help sustain the band throughtout 2012.
The band also performed at our annual Carol Concerts in Harbridge Church on the 21st Decembet and Sandy Balls Holiday Centre on Christmas Eve - the highlight as always being our rendition of "The 12 Days of Christmas", which always goes down a storm with the audience.
November has been a busy time for the band preparing for two contests. All this hard work has paid off with a 2nd place at Gloucestershire GBBA Contest on 20th November followed a further 2nd place in First Section at Weymouth WBBA Contest on 26th November. These results are particularly encouraging for the band with so many changes in personnel over the last few months and the move to new rehearsal facilities.
Hyde Band raised the roof of the North Gorley WWII aircraft hangar at the annual Roaring 40s Concert on 13th August. Arguably one of the most popular concerts the band deliver each year, this year was no different and the audience really were 'In the Mood' for a night of entertainment, singing and dancing and suitably dressed in 40s style attire.
