January 2007: David Johnson Joins on Principal Euphonium

We officially welcome David Johnson who joins Hyde by signing for the band on Principal Euphonium. David Johnson was born in Sennen Cove, Cornwall and he commenced his brass band career at Penzance Silver at the age of 10. His next band was Lanner and District until he joined the Royal Marines Band Service at the age of 16. Whilst still in training David gained the Licentiate of the London College of Music and he is currently studying for his BMus (hons) degree. Having David’s talent, ability and experience will prove to be a great asset to the band.

December 2006: Elliotts Continue the Sponsorship Deal

Elliotts the Builders Merchants have pledged to continue the long association with the band. A recent letter received from Stuart Mason-Elliott confirms that Elliotts are proud to be the sponsors of Hyde Band and are pleased to hear that the band is back on the way up. The band would like to thank Elliotts for their support over the years. Without the financial assistance they have provided the band wouldn’t be in the strong position it finds itself in today. Thank you.

December 2006: Proud to be Hyde Band

The last 12 months have been an amazing time for the band and we all should be very proud to be associated with this musical organisation. We have made so much progress in so many areas. The biggest progression made has been made in the reason why Hyde Band exists, the music making.

December 2006: WBBA Winter Contest

Sunday 26 th November 2006 saw the band perform the set test piece Spectrum written by Gilbert Vinter. The band was pre-drawn to play number one and put in a very good performance which was well received by the audience. The result was a little disappointing but the band has improved so much over the last twelve months a solid performance was what was required with the area contest in sight.

Autumn 2006: New President and Recognition of Long Service

The Hyde Band proudly announces the appointment of Mr John Lyon as the bands President. Last month, John was invited by the Directors to become the new President.  John was delighted to be asked, immediately accepted the position. He assured the Directors of his admiration for the band with also his full commitment to the cause. We all look forward to working with John who brings years of Rotary experience & a financial back ground.  John takes on the position after the decision of Mr Peter Totty to step down as the bands president.
