A New Rehearsal Venue

Following a public appeal and press campaign in August to find suitable temporary accommodation, the band are extremely grateful to Mike Jackson of the Rotary Club for allowing the band to use the hall at Glasshouse Studios at Tinkers' Cross, Fordingbridge. We hope to be able to return to our base in Elliotts, Fordingbridge, early next year.

Winners of the 1st Section at the Bugle Bandsmen’s Festival

Hyde Band, Bugle 2016

Hyde Band made their debut appearance at the West of England Bandsmen’s Festival in Bugle on 18th June 2016. It was a very breezy day down in Bugle and whilst this would not normally be a problem at a contest, at Bugle things are very different. Bugle is an open-air contest and held on a big platform in the middle of the breezy Cornish countryside. Thankfully, our musical director is native to Cornwall and an experienced Bugle competitor, and after much nagging he finally convinced us all to stick our music to cardboard and bring all manner of pegs and magnets to anchor it down. It was just as well, because the wind was blowing hard and our music would have taken off faster than Mary Poppins in force ten if we hadn’t. As a true professional, our Musical Director has been working hard over the last 20+ years to ensure that even under the most severe conditions, he will never blow away!

March 2016: Farewell to Steve Mattock and Paul Dunning

Hyde Band Chairman and Bass player, Steve Mattock, announced his retirement from the band at the AGM in March 2016. Steve has been a stalwart of the band for a great many years, taking on a number of roles including bandmaster and chairman. He will be sorely missed, but we wish him well in the future and hope he now has more time to enjoy his other hobbies and past times.

Looking Forward to 2016

With Spring just around the corner, the band is already planning some exciting concerts and events for the coming year - see our Events page, but first we are rehearsing our socks off for two contests, the first at Oxford at the end of February, and the West Of England Regional Contest in Torquay in March, playing ‘Essay’ by Edward Gregson, where we will be up against the top bands in our area.

January 2016: Training Band Wessex Contest

Training Band Wessex Contest

Our Training band under their conductor, Lloyd Bartlett, enjoyed performing at the Wessex Youth and Training band Contest in Downton in January. It was the first time on the contest stage for many of the players, young and older, but they wowed the audience with their rendition of Jessie J’s ‘Price Tag’, complete with a rap sung by Jake, our young Euphonium player. He was presented with a Silver Award; his younger brother, Oliver, aged 6, received the trophy for ‘Youngest Player’ in the contest.
