Hyde Band are celebrating again. Competing in the Championship Section at Weston they continued their recent fine form with second place behind Newbridge (Celynen) Band. MD Jonathan Camps was very pleased with a strong performance, playing 'Checkmate', beating bands from Wales and London who will be also competing in the National Finals in Harrogate in September.
Hyde Band (belatedly!) welcomes another new player. The recent contest win at Torquay was also the second contest performance of Julie Davies, who joined our cornet section in the Autumn of 2006. Julie originally hails from Portchester, and began her banding career with the Southsea Junior band, under the tutelage of the incomparable Wesley Garner.
On Saturday the 10th of March 2007 the band played ‘The Wayfarer’ by Eric Ball at the Riviera Centre. The band played extremely well and were placed 1st out of 13 bands. The band now has an invite to the National Finals in Harrogate later this year to represent the West of England Region in the 1st section. More photo’s and reaction to follow.
We officially welcome David Johnson who joins Hyde by signing for the band on Principal Euphonium. David Johnson was born in Sennen Cove, Cornwall and he commenced his brass band career at Penzance Silver at the age of 10. His next band was Lanner and District until he joined the Royal Marines Band Service at the age of 16. Whilst still in training David gained the Licentiate of the London College of Music and he is currently studying for his BMus (hons) degree. Having David’s talent, ability and experience will prove to be a great asset to the band.
