On 31st July Hyde Band hosted their first Master Class delivered by three top players from the world famous Grimethorpe Colliery Band. Players of all standards came to learn from the stars, namely Kevin Crockford on soprano cornet, Andy Holmes on flugel horn and Michael Dodd on euphonium. Photographs from the day are available in the gallery.
On the 24th April the band performed a very successful concert at the Trinity Church in Ringwood. On this occasion our Musical Director, Ivan Hutchinson was away in Dubai on Marine duties – that is once the volcano stopped spewing ash and he actually made it out there! But Hyde Band were not going to let a volcano stop them from putting on a good show – stepping into the breach was Captain Dave Barringer, Director of Music, Royal Signals.
For the band, this is the biggest competition of the year, with the potential to qualify for the National Finals. This year the band decided to stay in Torquay over the whole weekend, which meant no early starts to catch the coach, and no need to rush back afterwards! With a relaxed rehearsal in a local church hall on the Friday night, followed by a leisurely breakfast on the morning of the contest, we were all in good spirits and ready to perform.
Congratulations to our 1st horn player Natasha Marchant and her husband Dave on the arrival of baby Eloise Danielle Marchant on 9th March. Whilst we are over the moon for you both, we can't help but notice the poor planning as Eloise's birthday clashes with the annual regional championships area contest!
Hyde Band would like wish the band's Soprano Cornet Player, Andy Watson and his wife Lara many congratulations on the birth of their daughter Grace Rose on 23rd December.
