2017 Wessex Contest
Saturday 25th November 2017 saw Hyde Band venture to the New Life Centre in Bournemouth for the Wessex Brass Band Association Winter Contest. This is an own-choice contest with an open adjudication, so that competing bands can be seen by the adjudicator. Hyde chose to play "Odyssey" by Kevin Norbury, which will also be the Area test piece in March next year.
The result was positive for Hyde, coming third overall and placed second within the First section group. In addition, our percussion team won the award for best percussion section!
"A performance with lots to offer" (from Adjudicators remarks)
"This is a great result - I'm really pleased for the band.", said the band chairman Martin Easterbrook, "We are building the band that will compete in the Championship Section next year in Torquay, and this is a milestone in our preparation. This result gives us lots of feedback and direction for what we need to do next".
Jonathan Lush-Camps, Hyde Band Musical Director, was also very pleased with the performance, commenting "I set the band a challenge, and they rose to it. Well done them".
